Rainbow Kite
Today is the Cape Town International Kite Festival in Lakeside. I shot through this morning to take a few shots. There are some amazing kites on display, from simple kites you can fly in your back garden, to huge cartoon characters. Entrance is only R15, and proceeds go to Cape Mental Health.

The festival finishes tonight at 7pm, so there is still plenty of time to get down there and have a look at the kites. It is a great outing for children, and small kites are for sale for the little people to fly themselves.
Even the SA flag was (literally) flying
Oh how cute ;).Great shots,Craig.I like the photo of Tweetie! So cute…
Love kites and kite festivals… the whimsy of their movement and color really capture the heart and the eye, when I pick one up I feel like a child again… love your shots!
Thanks, there were lots of moms and dads there teaching their children to fly kites. Very cute! It also reminds me of the book The Kite Runner.
I’ve always enjoyed kite flying. But, personally, I wasn’t much good at it. As a kid, we didn’t have money for commercially-made kits, so we’d find some sticks and newspaper and put them together. They never did work too well and if they actually ever flew they’d end up on a telephone line or in a tree!
I would like to see a kite demonstration like this one. Your photos are excellent; great colors against that blue sky!
Yeah, I cannot think when I last flew a kite. I think that I probably as a child killed far more kites than I have managed to fly :-) But then wasn’t making your own kites part of growing up as a child (on no now I feel old!)?
Anyway, this festival is every year, so come on down to Cape Town next October :-)
