Last night was the very very hot and still weather that you get just before a thunderstorm, and I saw something that I have never seen before, two dragonfly’s hanging from my bedroom light, so here is a pic of one of them. It was a difficult picture to take because the light was on, and I could not pull the cord without scaring the little guy off.
So after a little experimentation, here is what I managed to do.
Correction: This is a damselfly and not a dragonfly. According to Wikipedia:
Damselflies are similar to dragonflies, but the adults can be differentiated by the fact that the wings of most damselflies are held along, and parallel to, the body when at rest. Furthermore, the hindwing of the damselfly is essentially similar to the forewing, while the hindwing of the dragonfly broadens near the base. Damselflies are also usually smaller, weaker fliers than dragonflies, and their eyes are separated.
Your photos are great, Craig! This is a Damselfly, not a Dragofly. A friend challenged me into photo journalling in January this year.
Thanks Maggz, I didn’t even know there was a difference. Glad you like the pics.
My pleasure (Have learned a lot since January) I love insect macro photography & spiders are my favourite!
You have picked a challenging topic :-)
