The Ferris Wheel at the V&A Waterfront. It was originally installed for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and has been here ever since. Personally I think it is a nice addition to the waterfront.

The picture also reminds me that I need to visit the Da Vinci exhibition before it closes.

It is fun being a tourist in your home town. This penguin was shot at Boulders Beach, on of the few colonies of African Penguins in the world.

According to the New York Times, Cape Town is the top place to visit. This shot of Table Mountain with the city in the foreground was take from the Robben Island ferry

The room in which Nelson Mandela lived for 18 years of his life on Robben Island. Seeing the size of it is a humbling experience.

Cape Town HDR News

My brother and sister in law have been on holiday in Cape Town for the past couple of weeks, so I have spend a lot of time acting as an impromptu tour guide. So for today’s trip we decided to go for a walk around the reservoir in the Silvermine nature reserve, and for a walk along one of the many hiking trails.

My SLR was a little heavy to carry around the mountain trails so I just took my point and shoot and I think that this shot is more proof that the best camera is the one you have with you.

Franschhoek is really become a “little France” with these lovely Lavender fields on the side of the road.

It is just like being back in Provence.

It was with a little scepticism that I tried out a braai plank. It is simply a piece of fragrant wood (oak, birch, mapel etc) that you soak in water for a few hours, and then cook your meat or veges on in on the braai or weber. So I decided to try some roasted peppers, chillies and onions, and after using it once I am completely hooked. They were succulent, roasted perfectly and had a wonderful smokey taste.

I have not cooked meat on it yet (the road was cooked next to it on the grid), but that will be done soon. I am completely hooked on the braai plank. It adds a new dimension to cooking on the braai.

A lovely winter waterfall on my regular running route on Boyes Drive. One of the great things about running is that you see so much more that you do in a car. And no I don’t usually run with my camera, but for this run I decided to take my small point and shoot, and I am really glad that I did. It is true – the best camera is the one you have with you.

I shot this about 2 weeks ago at the Bluebird  Garage Market, which is held every Friday evening. While it is not close to the great European markets it’s nice to pop down for a drink or two, have some interesting food. Having said that, there is usually live music and craft beer, so it is worth popping down one Friday evening.

I took this shot of the farmhouse about 2 years ago in Stellenbosch, some lovely old buildings in the country. I never liked the original processing, so here is take 2.
