Well I was (sort of) supposed to ride in the 109km race, but since I have put so much effort into the Two Oceans Half Marathon in 3 weeks time, I did the prudent thing and just watched the race from the sidelines.

Of course that did not stop me from taking some photos. Here are a few highlights.

Cape Town

Last Sunday, Lois and I went to the top of Table Mountain on the Cable Car (thanks to Table Mountain Aerial Cableway for the free tickets).  It was a beautufully clear day, and you could see for miles and miles. Of course, the view from the top is amazing!

The first shot is of the city bowl (business district), with Lion’s Head on the left, and in the distace you can see Robin Island, and the beaches of Blouberg on the right.

And the next shot is of Lion’s Head with one of the cable car’s in the foreground, and once again Robin Island on the right. You can walk to the top of Lion’s head in about an hour or so, and it is fulled with lines of people climbing to the top on full moon nights.

The lines to get to the top of Table Mountain are long (unless you climb to the top in which case there are no lines), but it is an amazing experience, and well worth the wait.

Sometimes you just have to have a camera with you. On Sunday I was walking in De Waal Park, when I saw Spiderman climbing onto the fountain in the middle of the park. I don’t know why, but I guess that Spiderman was doing what Spiderman does.Spiderman

Yesterday afternoon Lois and I went to watch Robin Auld playing live in De Waal Park. Robin has been around forever (ok since the 80’s), but he is an integral part of Cape Town musical history. We had not seen him play for ages, so it was a treat. I think we last saw him at the Masque Theatre about 2 or 3 years ago. Anyway he has a few more gigs in Cape Town before he heads back to the UK, so head on down if you can.

De Waal Park has music every two weeks or so, and the best part (aside from an excuse to go and have a picnic on the lawns under the trees) is that the concerts are free. Just arrive and enjoy the afternoon (Arno Carstens is in two weeks).

Cape Town

Last night I went to the Red Hot Chili Peppers gig at Cape Town Stadium, and while I was not able to take my SLR with me (and my trusty fully charged point and shoot’s battery mysteriously died), I was still able to snap this panaroma off on my phone.

Not too bad for a phone.

Cape Town

We have had some massive summer mountain fire in Cape Town over the past few days, resulting in a lot of dust in the air. There is very little nice about the damage and smoky air, a small side effect is the amazing moonrises you get as the moon shines through the smog in the air.

Parkbench in the moonlightI took this shot late last night with a long exposure to really get the colour of the red in the sky reflecting in the moonlight.

The only way to open a bottle of bubbly is, of course, with a sword. Nothing like a bit of impromptu Sabrage.

Cape Minstrels, 2nd new year’s parade. They are a noisy and colourful spectacle to watch, but the organization is poor. You can stand around for hours and see a few groups come past. Then there is nothing for a while, and then another group.

This is one of the things that I love about loving in Cape Town. You can goto Tokai forst, and find runners, cyclists and horse riders all sharing the same area (and genrerally getting on with each other).

Today I found all three on the same day.
