Rainbow Kite

Today is the Cape Town International Kite Festival in Lakeside. I shot through this morning to take a few shots. There are some amazing kites on display, from simple kites you can fly in your back garden, to huge cartoon characters. Entrance is only R15, and proceeds go to Cape Mental Health.

The festival finishes tonight at 7pm, so there is still plenty of time to get down there and have a look at the kites. It is a great outing for children, and small kites are for sale for the little people to fly themselves.

Even the SA flag was (literally) flying

Fishing boats in Kalk Bay Harbour

I shot this picture on the way to dinner at the Harbour House Restaurant last night, where I had a fantastic piece of yellow-tail for dinner. This is one of the most photographed places in Cape Town, and even though I have taken hundreds of pictures here, I still cannot resist taking another few pictures every time that I come here.

If you want to shoot interesting people, goto a tattoo or bikers expo. You will find all sorts of interesting shots. Here are just three that I took.

This guy is a little much for me. I can count at least 11 piercings, and those are just the ones that I can see.

Well, I guess one way to keep cool is to dress lightly.

This is the last of the Ink & Iron photos, I hope you enjoyed them.

Part 3 of the Ink & Iron shots: the ink. Weather you like tattoos or not, you simply cannot deny the talent that some of these artists have. Some astonishing work.

Finally work in progress. I think that a job like this must take months to do. Just for the record, this is a  little keen for me, but it still looks incredible.

This is the second of my posts from the Ink & Skin expo, some very cool bikes and choppers.

There are two groups of people in the world. Those that ride Harley Davidson, and those that won’t.

Butch: Zed’s dead, baby. Zed’s dead.

On Saturday, I went to the Ink & Iron expo in Plumstead, a celebration of cars, bikes, and tattoos. I am going to split this over four posts, today is the cars, soon to be followed by the bikes, people and ink.

Chevrolet Truck. The funny thing about this truck is that I drove past it about 10 days ago and thought what a great car it would be to shoot, and there it was, so I got my shot after all.

Chevrolet Camaro

An old ford, converted into a Hotrod – I love this car!

Just some nice flowers today. Enjoy the spring!

On Sunday, we celebrated my mother-in-laws birthday by having lunch at her house. She live in St James, and her deck has a wonderful view of False Bay. Everybody came to the birthday  party, even a mother and baby whale made an appearance. This shot of the mom and baby whale playing was taken from the deck (with my point and shoot, so this is as close as I could get).

Some of you have asked for a copy of my recent presentation at WordCamp Cape Town. The organisers have loaded all of the sessions onto YouTube, so if you would like to watch my session (or any of the others, look below).

If you are at all interested in WordPress and missed WordCamp , I highly recommend that you look out for WordCamp Cape Town 2012, it is going to be a fantastic conference.

Here is the YouTube video.

Francois’ Espedata

The weather this weekend has been glorious (you may notice that Capetonians have an obsession with the weather), so a group of us decided to have an outdoor lunch at Forries in Claremont. Foresters Arms, which  is a traditional English pub, has been around for as long as I can remember. And they server about 15 beers on tap (which is very rare for Cape Town).

Francois could not resist the Espedata, which looked fantastic. But at 400 grams, it was simply big a meal for me, so I settled on a chicken burger covered with Bree and cranberry sauce.
