I spotted this old Bettle parted at the beach in Muizenberg, and had to shoot it. The car was in excellent condition, and was clearly looked after. The Beetle is still a classic such a lovely design.

The folks at Cape Town Helicopters give me a flip in one of their choppers on Saturday to do a photoshoot. It was a cool and crystal-clear day perfect for shooting.

Table Mountain with Lion’s Head on the right, the harbour in the front.

Cape Town Stadium, with Lion’s Head and Table Mountain in the background.

Cape Town Stadium with the city bowl in the background.

The Camps Bay and Clifton beaches, with Hout Bay in the distance.

You can do a flip for less that R600, and while that is a lot of money, it is an amazing and unforgettable experience. Highly recommended. Cape Town Helicopters have a 100% safety record, so I am sure you are in good hands.

Disclosure: my flight was free, but the opinions and photos are mine.

Cape Town

A few weeks ago I posted an HDR photo of an old framhouse in Stellenbosch. This is the same building, but this time with normal black and white processing. It is in Stellenbosch, taken on the Spier road. It looks locked up to me, but I think it could make a nice office in the country.

The winter rain has arrived today, but it was not here on Tuesday. I caught this shot while driving home to Muizenberg. The mountains in the distance are the Hottentots-Holland mountains, and if you look carefully, you can see the hotels of the Strand on the edge of the water across the bay. This is one of the most peaceful and clean beaches in the world (at least I think so).

I had a meeting in Bo-Kaap today, an old suburb just on the outside of the city bowl. The lovely sunshine was perfect weather to shoot a few pictures and play with my new 10/22mm lens before my next meeting.

The whole neighbourhood is colourfully painted, and being a traditional Muslim area, they are lots of beautifully build Mosques to photograph.

You can find out more on the Bo-Kaap website: http://www.bokaap.co.za/

This is one of my first HDR photos, an empty bottle of Jack Daniles; Uncle Jack to some. I don’t think that this is how I will be celebrating the end of the week, perhaps a glass of wine will be in order.

I saw a whole bed of these wonderful spring flowers growing outside Tygervalley shopping centre, and the spring Namaqualand Flowers are already in full bloom. It truly seems like we are having an early spring, very strange for July.

Cape Town

Although it is the middle of winter, the last few days have been unusually warm. Even the local fynbos flowers are blooming (I have even been walking around in a T-shirt). But while the weather has been wonderful, I think that it is just about over, and we are going to be in for the much needed winter rain in a few days.

I think that these wilting sunflowers that I bought Lois the other day represent the weather (and no, they were not wilting when I bought them!).
