I drive past the beach every day to and from work, and today for the first time, I saw this group of horse-riders on the beach. I don’t know of any stables nearby, and I have never seen it before.

It really is a bit of a mystery to me, but I would love to go riding on Muizenberg beach. Can anybody enlighten me?

Cape Town

After the aweful weather we have had this weekend, it is lovely to be able to soak up some sun, and to go for a walk along the Muizenberg/St James beach. The sun is warm, the sky is clear, and it is simply an amazing day! The colourful beach huts in St James are still there, and they are still open to the public as changing rooms, (unlike Brighton where you can pay up to 20000 Pounds for the privilege).

While this particular beach is quite rocky, there is a lovely tidal pool you can swim in, and it was surprisingly empty today. I remember as a student coming down here for biology trips and having to walk among the rocks to find little beach animals and plants.

The walk from Muizenberg to the tidal pool is not far, probably about 1.5 km or so, but very pretty, and there are lots of people so it should be quite safe as well. And if you don’t feel like the walk, you can park on the side of Main Road and cross through one of the subways onto the beach.

The winter rain has arrived today, but it was not here on Tuesday. I caught this shot while driving home to Muizenberg. The mountains in the distance are the Hottentots-Holland mountains, and if you look carefully, you can see the hotels of the Strand on the edge of the water across the bay. This is one of the most peaceful and clean beaches in the world (at least I think so).

Muizenberg beach is a favourite spot for morning dog walking. We often take our dogs for a walk on the beach on the weekends, and they love the space, the freedom and of course socializing with all the other dogs. Mostly all the dogs want to do is run around and have fun; I have seldom seen a scuffle between any dogs.

Of course you don’t need to have a dog to enjoy the beach :-)

Muizenberg beach is one of the reasons that I love living in Lakeside; It truly is magnificent.

This shot of the harbour is taken from the small beach that is accessed through the subway at the bottom of Boyes Drive. I took it through one of the arches of the railway line bridge. It is a very nice (and surprisingly uncrowded) beach to relax  on.

This is also today’s Cape Town Travel’s pic of the day :-)

In a recent post I promised to show you a photo of Cape Town from the “other side” of False Bay. Well, here is a view of the False Bay coast of Cape Town, taken from Pringle Bay, looking a Simonstown on the left, heading past Muizenberg and towards Cape Town itself on the right.

Pringle Bay is a wonderful area, amazingly under-developed, with the most beautiful beach. We spend Saturday and Sunday there, and it was such a relaxing break, much needed to charge the batteries before the Christmas chaos about to come.

We took Eccles and Emily with us, and they both (literally) had a whale of a time.

Yes, it is true. Brighton does not have a real beach. The beach consists purely of round pebbles. Ok so yes the beach is real, just not to a South African.

They have been word down for such a long time, that they are almost soft to walk on. But it is really different to walking on the beaches in Cape Town.

The upside of course is that when then wind blows, you don’t get the Cape Town sandblasting.

Here is a small pier with fishermen on the end (of course not to be confused with Brighton Pier)

Brighton beach is a great place to sit and contemplate the world; these two people were shot in Hove, sitting and watching the sea

Just look at that beach, you really cannot compare with it.

Cape Town

Cds MG 0177There is a tiny lagoon on the beach, just opposite the landfill on Baden Powell drive which I often drive past. In the morning it is covered in Seagulls and small birds enjoying the shallow waters.

Today I stopped to take a pic of them, and I gaught this show of the two birds fighting (or possibly mating). I really don’t know Seagulls too well, but they constantly literally flying into each other and almost chasing each other away.

It was an interesting site, and I think it makes quite a nice photo.

Two surfers walking up the beach after a day’s surfing. I am not sure if I like this picture or not – I would love your feedback.

It was taken at Muizenberg beach at about 5:45pm
