Today was the Two Oceans Marathon, a 56m race around the Cape Peninsula. It has been running since 1970 (when there were only 26 entries), and now there are just under 11000 entries.
Now, while I am crazy enough to race around Cape Town on my bicycle, I am not crazy enough to run the marathon*. However, I was more than happy to take some photos.

Chapman’s Peak during the Argus Cycle Tour. This most be one of the most beautiful roads to cycle on. If you look carefully, you can see the road covered in little ants, which are in fact the cyclists.
Somebody paddeling on Zandvlei early in the morning on a very still day. The temperature ended up peaking at about 38 deg C (about 100 deg F).
South African Navy day is today, and it is a rare opportunity to be able to visit a Naval facility and to take photos of Naval ships (both South African and German).
A reminder of the awfully discriminating past of South Africa, this bench,
along with its counterpart "Whites Only" now resides outside the Cape Town
High Court as a reminder of the past. Thank goodness that is behind us, I
sincerely hope that it is never repeated.
A Squirrel eating at the Company Gardens in Cape Town. If you visit in the
evening, you can see lots of them eating nuts and left over debris from the
picnics in the gardens.
On Sunday I posted a picture of a lovely summers day, and just two days later, we are having some rather unexpected rain in Cape Town. This Cape Honeysuckle in my garden seems to be enjoying the rain.
This is an old Huey helicopter , used mainly in the Vietnam war. This particular one is now used for tourist chopper flights over Cape Town. I caught it in action flying over my house.
I was driving home, when I saw a huge fire in some open land. The fire
trucks were there, and although devastating to the grass, an interesting photo opportunity.
Onions for sale on the side of the road. R25 for the onions is about $3, cheap even for local prices!
