Cloudy sunrise

Yeah I know. Another sunrise, but they are just so great at the moment. I really love the clouds in this one, which I why I have posted it. Hope you enjoy it!

Brushed cloudy sunrise

Well, sunrises just rock at this time of year; I just can’t help myself! Hope you enjoy it, we have having wonderful weather in Cape Town after the very wet time we had last weekend.

The Ferris Wheel (still there)

In Sep 2010, I posted about the Ferris Wheel in the Waterfront. At the time, it was scheduled to be there for a total of 6 months, but almost 2 years later it is still there (it has however been moved to the middle of the tourist area, which is probably a good think).

Anyway, I confess that I still have not got around to visiting it, but I will soon, I promise!

Langebaan Panorama

This is another panoramic shot that I took when I was at Langebaan a couple of weeks ago. It is very seldom that the water is so calm and glass-like, it is normally full of that white horses whipped up by the South-Easter wind. It was amazing to enjoy the beautiful (yet cold) weather. It was actually perfectly calm for water-skiing, but it is a long time since I have done that, and the water would be far too cold. Click on the shot to see more detail of this wonderful place.

Some completely useless information is that Langebaan Lagoon is one of the few in the world to be made by the tides moving in and out; there is no river feeding it. It consists completely of salt water.

Cape Town

Yesterday I posted a photo of Langebaan lagoon on a really calm morning. Although it was freezing cold, the still weather continued throughout the day, and we did not have any wind at all. We were also blessed with a glorious sunset, so I grabbed my camera (this time the SLR), and rushed down to the water’s edge to grab a shot or two.

Here are some of the results.

Silver moon

An (almost full) moon, caught just above the Muizenberg Mountains this morning. The moon was full on Monday, so was still pretty large this morning. If you look really closely, you can see the shapes where the moon-mice have been eating from the big block of cheese.

This was the view out of my bedroom window this morning :-)

PS: no cheating in Photoshop involved. That is exactly where the moon was.

Sunrise in Lakeside

At this time of the year, the sun rises and sets with the most amazing colours in the sky. And the few clouds in the sky today make for the most amazing sunrise shots. This particular show was a panorama of 2 shots taken on my compact, caught on the way to work.

I just think that Cape Town is the most amazing place to live, with views like this literally 100m from my front door.

Somerset West

I have now completed three trail runs over the past month. The last one was the Helderberg Mountain Challenge yesterday. Trail running is far more crazy than road running. Sometimes you run on a gravel road, sometimes on a thin mountain path, and quite often you are climbing up a river bed, looking for the next contour.

A 10km run usually takes me just over an hour, but on this trail it took 1:40; it is a much more difficult route. You have to take all your own water with you, and on the longer runs you need to carry space blankets and first aid kits. In total we went up 600m, and of course down another 600m.

I didn’t take my camera with me, but I did have my trusty phone, this shot is a panorama shot of the Somerset West vineyards, heading towards the  Strand on the right.

Rainbow

On Friday evening, I saw a lovely rainbow on the beach, and just managed to catch it before the clouds completely blocked the sun. We have had remarkably clear skies this weekend, but it has been freezing cold. There must be snow somewhere on the mountains.

By the way, last week’s boat that was run around has amazingly been pulled off the beach with any environmental damage. Hooray!

Walking in the Mist

Walking in the mist; we are having a lot of misty mornings as summer reluctantly gives way to winter.
