A lovely winter waterfall on my regular running route on Boyes Drive. One of the great things about running is that you see so much more that you do in a car. And no I don’t usually run with my camera, but for this run I decided to take my small point and shoot, and I am really glad that I did. It is true – the best camera is the one you have with you.

Another shot from Sunday’s shooting; this one of Slanghoek Lighthouse in Noorthoek, Cape Town just as the sun was starting to set.
I had a very lazy weekend, so at the last minute I shot down to Kommetjie lighthouse to play around with a few evening photos. This one was taken just in front of the lighthhouse, looking down towards the sunset.
This strange urban art that has appeared in one of the canals in Cape Town, apparently it is to raise awareness of the pollution in the water.
The Chris de Burgh lyrics “Don’t pay the ferryman..” comes to mind.
We have had some massive summer mountain fire in Cape Town over the past few days, resulting in a lot of dust in the air. There is very little nice about the damage and smoky air, a small side effect is the amazing moonrises you get as the moon shines through the smog in the air.
I took this shot late last night with a long exposure to really get the colour of the red in the sky reflecting in the moonlight.
Reflection of a jungle-gym in a huge puddle after the days of stormy weather; it look like it is in the middle of a river, doesn’t it? The huge area of water it is in is a massive puddle in a very water-logged park. I think it’s going to take weeks for it to drain (it is a lake in the background, it is not that wet).
Another lovely sunrise after a very wet few stormy days. I think that we are still going to have some more storms, and that this was just a brief interlude. The green belt around the vlei is completely waterlogged. Even the ducks have started using the puddles as paddling pools.
We had a very late winter storm over the weekend, and finally today has dawned into a wonderfully clear blue sky. But the mountain streams are gushing with all the runoff, and if you look around you can find some wonderful waterfalls that are usually dry or just a small trickle.
This is another panoramic shot that I took when I was at Langebaan a couple of weeks ago. It is very seldom that the water is so calm and glass-like, it is normally full of that white horses whipped up by the South-Easter wind. It was amazing to enjoy the beautiful (yet cold) weather. It was actually perfectly calm for water-skiing, but it is a long time since I have done that, and the water would be far too cold. Click on the shot to see more detail of this wonderful place.
Some completely useless information is that Langebaan Lagoon is one of the few in the world to be made by the tides moving in and out; there is no river feeding it. It consists completely of salt water.
Yesterday I posted a photo of Langebaan lagoon on a really calm morning. Although it was freezing cold, the still weather continued throughout the day, and we did not have any wind at all. We were also blessed with a glorious sunset, so I grabbed my camera (this time the SLR), and rushed down to the water’s edge to grab a shot or two.
Here are some of the results.
