The winter rain has arrived today, but it was not here on Tuesday. I caught this shot while driving home to Muizenberg. The mountains in the distance are the Hottentots-Holland mountains, and if you look carefully, you can see the hotels of the Strand on the edge of the water across the bay. This is one of the most peaceful and clean beaches in the world (at least I think so).

Most of the coast of False Bay all the way from Simonstown to Cape Point consists of these stoney beaches. While you can’t really swin here, it provides a wonderful view when out walking or cycling. Further out are excellent fishing and diving spots.
I love this shot; the father on the large windsurfer was surfing next to his son who was on on the smaller board. He was giving advice to his son from across the water. Judging on how the son was doing, he is not going to need advise for much longer. He is already far better that I ever was.
I saw this boat on Zandvlei at the weekend. It has a fiberglass hull, and you sit in front of the mast and steer with your feet (much as you would with a Kayak). That tiny little homemade sail was not at all effective, but I am sure that with a bigger sail it could be quite a fun experience.
I asked the person that helped to launch the boat, and he told me that the original mast had been stolen so this was a trial of a newhomemade sail. Perhaps a little more time in the workshop is in order…
Muizenberg beach is a favourite spot for morning dog walking. We often take our dogs for a walk on the beach on the weekends, and they love the space, the freedom and of course socializing with all the other dogs. Mostly all the dogs want to do is run around and have fun; I have seldom seen a scuffle between any dogs.
Of course you don’t need to have a dog to enjoy the beach :-)
Muizenberg beach is one of the reasons that I love living in Lakeside; It truly is magnificent.
I spent that afternoon on Sunday at a Braai with friends in Melkbos, and while I was there I managed to sneak away to the beach for a few minutes. The weather was perfect for body-boarding, and the waves were full of people enjoying the sun and thrill of the sport.
It is a long time since I was last on a body-board, but looking at these folks enjoying the water make me very tempted to find a board and join them.
I can’t give too much information about this ship, but from what I can gather, it is a Panamanian coal ship, originally with 30000 tons of coal onboard which ran around in October 2009, and is still there.
It is literally a stones throw from the beach, and you can see the many kite-surfers in front of and around it.
Does anybody have any more information?
These shots were taken on the beach in Pringle Bay. It was right in the middle of the “golden hour”, where sun reflecting off the rocks and the rock pools gives such wonderful colours. The top picture reminds me of the fantasy novels that I used to readwhen I was younger. I bet a fire-breathing dragon lives just to the left of the shot :-)
In a recent post I promised to show you a photo of Cape Town from the “other side” of False Bay. Well, here is a view of the False Bay coast of Cape Town, taken from Pringle Bay, looking a Simonstown on the left, heading past Muizenberg and towards Cape Town itself on the right.
Pringle Bay is a wonderful area, amazingly under-developed, with the most beautiful beach. We spend Saturday and Sunday there, and it was such a relaxing break, much needed to charge the batteries before the Christmas chaos about to come.

We took Eccles and Emily with us, and they both (literally) had a whale of a time.
Eccles
This beautiful Church is not St Mark’s Basilica, it is in fact the Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore, directly opposite St Mark’s Basilica in Venice. Taken from St Mark’s Square.
It is a Benedictine church, dating back to 1566 (the site has had a church from approximately 900AD).
