There is a sailing regatta on at Zandvlei this weekend, and all the small boats are out. Of course I was there to capture it.
Sailing in a big circle around the demarcated course.
Oops! Although he was back up and running in no time at all.
We have had some massive summer mountain fire in Cape Town over the past few days, resulting in a lot of dust in the air. There is very little nice about the damage and smoky air, a small side effect is the amazing moonrises you get as the moon shines through the smog in the air.
I took this shot late last night with a long exposure to really get the colour of the red in the sky reflecting in the moonlight.
Yeah I know. Another sunrise, but they are just so great at the moment. I really love the clouds in this one, which I why I have posted it. Hope you enjoy it!
At this time of the year, the sun rises and sets with the most amazing colours in the sky. And the few clouds in the sky today make for the most amazing sunrise shots. This particular show was a panorama of 2 shots taken on my compact, caught on the way to work.
I just think that Cape Town is the most amazing place to live, with views like this literally 100m from my front door.
Tuesday (which was a public holiday) dawned cold, still and misty. The water was like glass, with the winter mist blurring the line between the water and the sky, perhaps blurring the real word with the world of the faeries a little as well.
I love walking around in the mist, it makes me feel like I am the only person in the world. Quiet, a little eerie, and peaceful.
While my blog has been a little quiet over the past few days, it is not because I have had nothing to post, but rather because I have been to busy shooting over the last few days. The glorious days in Cape Town over the Christmas period provided me with plenty of opportunity for some outdoor shooting. I will post some of the results over the next few days.
Firstly, windsurfing on Zandvlei.
When the South-Easter blows, it blows through False bay and straight across Zandvlei, which makes it a bit of a Mecca for windsurfers. In summer you are guaranteed to see a few windsurfers zipping up and down the vlei at high speeds. They surf at spectacular speeds, and of course they crash spectacularly as well.
When the nose dips like that, you know you are going to do down.
When I moved to the area I tried it out for several months, but alas my balance is just not good enough for this sport. So I have to content myself with shooting (with a camera) the windsurfers. They only come out when the wind blows, but at this time of year that is almost all the time.
I happened to see these ducklings on the vlei as I was driving past. As I grabbed my camera, they hopped into the water and swam off with mom (or dad) in tow.
Even though today is election day and a public holiday, the city council are still working, and our garbage is being collected. I forgot to leave my bin outside last night, so this morning when I heard the truck at the bottom of the road I had to rush out of bed and leave my bin outside.
This is a good thing because I saw this wonderful sunrise. So of course I rushed back in, grabbed my camera and tripod and snapped this shot (7 shots merged in photoshop). I think that it came out really well. There are absolutely no tonal adjustments to the colour, this is literally how it came out.
This row of palm trees provides a little shelter to the vlei from the ceaseless South-Easter. While they do look a little out of place on Zandvlei, I still rather like them.
I love this shot; the father on the large windsurfer was surfing next to his son who was on on the smaller board. He was giving advice to his son from across the water. Judging on how the son was doing, he is not going to need advise for much longer. He is already far better that I ever was.
